Betsy DeVos was involved with campus politics at Calvin College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and has been active politically since then. DeVos has led many campaigns, political action committees, and party organizations for over thirty years and has even served the Michigan Republican Party for six years. Her husband, Dick DeVos, was also a nominee for the Governor of Michigan in 2006. The DeVoses are always seeking out solutions to social problems and Betsy is also part of the Windquest Group team, an organization that invests in manufacturing, technology, and clean energy. Betsy is also a part of the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation and she is also a member of numerous local and national boards. The boards she is involved with include the DeVos Institute for Arts Management at the Kennedy Center, Kids Hope USA, Mars Hill Bible Church, and the Excellence in Education Foundation. During the 1990s, DeVos was on the boards for the American Reform Council for education and the Children First America charities which helped to expand educational choice through tax credits and vouchers. For a few years, DeVos has also served the Republican Party and started a political action committee known in the Great Lakes area that has promoted education reform through the addition of many charter schools. DeVos is focuses on educational choice and believes that homeschooling and charter schools are great options although the latter takes a lot of time to get started and operational.
